About Petoskey Stone Bottle Stopper by Shoreline Gems
The stones of the Petoskey Stone Wine Bottle Stopper were collected along the shores of northern Lake Michigan. Each stone is shaped, drilled and polished prior to having the stopper epoxied in. The Petoskey Stone measures 1 1/2 to 2 1-2 inch set on a food grade stainless steel stopper as bottle stoppers made from chrome will corrode from wine.
The stoppers have a 3/8 inch pin that is glued into a hole drilled into the underside of the stone. This is necessary because glued stones without a hole and pin are easily knocked off.
Petoskey stones are Michigan’s state stone and are over 350 million years old. Believed to be a positive energy stone, they are not a natural stone but rather a fossilized coral only found in the northern portions of Michigan’s lower peninsula.
