About the Michigan Stones Chip Earrings Wires by Shoreline Gems
These beautiful Michigan Stones Chip Earrings include Kona Dolomite, Firebrick, Barga Quartz, Leland Blue, and Petoskey Stone. A silver spacer is between each colorful stone chip and strung on sterling silver wires. Measure approximately 1″ long.
The artisan collects these Michigan stones then cuts, shapes, polishes and sets them into each beautiful piece.
Petoskey Stones were formed by the fossilization of an ancient coral, Hexagonaria and only found in Michigan’s lower peninsula. Petoskey Stone is the official Michigan state stone.
Leland Blue is not an actual stone, but a by product of smelting iron ore in the northern portions of Michigan’s lower peninsula. There were numerous foundries in the upper peninsula as well. The colors produced from the foundries in Leland and Elk Rapids seem to have produced the most desired colors of blue.
Kona Dolomite is found near Marquette in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. It is billions of years old.
Firebrick is from the old, hand-fired copper smelter of the Calumet & Heleca Mining Co, in Hubbell, Michigan. Hubbell is on the Keweenaw Peninsula, also known as Copper Country.
